Track eleven from Plant New Dreams was written right before my Dad died in '96 and is dedicated to Hospice.

I said, "How ya doin'? How ya doin', today?
Has the pain just gotten stronger, or has it gone away?
I can see that you've been restless, I can tell by how you lie."
Then I said to my father, "It's OK to die."

"Sometimes your body twitches and you seldom say a word;
And I can see your eyes are closed now, but I know my voice is heard.
It's time to do your inner work give up on asking why."
Then I said to my father, "It's OK to die."

"Well I know you've said you're ready, to leave this life behind;
And you have tied up your loose ends, so I think it's almost time.
Your loved ones blessed your moving on, they cried and said goodbye.
And now, it's up to you, my Dad, when your ready, you may die."

I said, "How ya doin'? How ya doin', right now?
Oh I see, you've finally moved on, I knew you would, somehow.
Right now you look so peaceful, at least in my mind's eye,"
Then I said to my father, "It's OK, Dad, it's OK to die."
